Community Quarantine Update – July 26, 2020

VVA President's Message Banner

We are still in Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ). Check points are still up at some locations and were being manned yesterday and random checks were being conducted. There has been an increase in COVID-19 cases in some areas. Just beware of changing restrictions.

Please read the VA Manila Clinic update posted by Ray Jones yesterday.

1. Tickets for the BIG BOX BLIND RAFFLE will be available beginning 4 August 2020, at our General Membership Meeting.

2. I talked to Dick Southern on 20 July 2020, and there have been no travel funds approved for the rest of this year. His trip to visit the Chapter is on hold for now.
3. Swine flu has been found in Cotobato. Be aware when buying pork products.
4. The U.S. Marine Corps begins shutdown of all tank battalions.

5. The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved an addition to its defense policy bill to expand the VA list of diseases considered related to exposure to Agent Orange, adding bladder cancer, hyperthyroidism and Parkinsonism. A similar provision was omitted from the U.S. House bill.

6. Per Military.com, any packages being sent to an APO, FPO or foreign address must have an electronic customs declaration form, the Military Service Postal Agency announced. Even though the change doesn’t take effect until 13 August 2020, the post office says that anyone mailing items overseas should start using the new form immediately.

Any package found in the mail stream with hand written customs declaration forms after 13 August 2020, will be returned to sender.

7. GOOD NEWS – GOOD NEWS – GOOD NEWS!! WALMART is coming to the Philippines. First store is to open in Muntinlupa followed by Alabang.

The deals have been closed and contracts were signed this past 1 April.

STAY SAFE!

JAMES (JIM) LARY

President
