VVA Chapter 887 President’s Report #19

VVA President's Message Banner

1.  Metro Manila and four nearby provinces move to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) while the rest of the country remains under Modified GCQ.  We are still under Modified GCQ.  While movement is less restricted, be aware that there are still areas where manned checkpoints still remain and entry restrictions are in effect.  Many streets are still blocked and entry to some barangays are restricted.  PLEASE continue to monitor the restrictions in the areas where you live and travel.

2.  Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) operations at the PRA Head Office began yesterday, 20 August 2020.  You must have an appointment for entry.  Mandatory face mask and face shield.  Physical distancing.  Local PRA Office located in the Azuro Hotel on MacArthur Hwy., across from the casino. PHONE:  +639178553811.  I will forward the email I received from PRA (with several attachments) to Ray Jones for  posting.

3.  President Trump just signed legislation that will broaden options for troubled veterans in the legal system and expand a home renovations grant program for disabled and blind veterans.

4.  We only have two TRICARE facilities available in the Angeles City area Medical City Clark and AUF).  We need more.  Sacred Heart Hospital no longer accepts TRICARE due to problems receiving payments from TRICARE.  TRICARE fraud still exist.  A former U.S. Air Force officer has been sentenced to two years prison for her role in a nationwide scheme to defraud TRICARE of billions of dollars.

5.  The U.S. CDC is encouraging everyone to get a flu shot.  Getting a flu shot is always wise, but especially so this year due to COVID-19.  The vaccine helps protect against influenza, which can be dangerous and even deadly.  Now another reason has emerged to get the flu shot.  It may reduce your risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.  Three separate studies presented to the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in late July all point to those studies.

     a.  Getting one vaccination drops the risk of Alzheimer’s by 17%.  Additional, frequent vaccinations drop the risk by another 13%.

     b.  Being vaccinated for pneumonia between 65 and 75 years of age lowers Alzheimer’s by up to 40%, but the impact depends on an individual’s genetic makeup.

6.  There is a possibility that a COVID-19 vaccine that emerges may not work in people who are obese.  Obesity contributes to health conditions such as cardiovascular disease and even cancer.  New research in an emerging science known as immunometabolism suggests that obesity hampers the body’s immune response, making people more vulnerable to infections from pathogens.  MY NOTE:  The advances in targeted treatments for diseases are just beginning.  Future treatments will be targeted to an individuals DNA sequence and our own bodies will be able to heal us.  MARVELOUS!!!

7. Our next General Membership Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 1st at 2 PM in American Legion Post 123. Hope to see you there!

STAY SAFE!  HAVE FAITH!!

JAMES (JIM) LARY President
